Decorating With Neutrals

just chosen up the may 2009 problem of town & Country…annual spring house issue. Thin, yes, however still inspiring. (They state the bottom of this crappy economic climate is in sight, as well as by next year at this time around all of us mags will be fat again. Fingers crossed…)

I like the story on page 100, “Safe Harbour,” as well as particularly the spaces on page 100 as well as 103.

With all the retro, boho, mod mixing going on in design, it can be difficult to discover a full-grown space that still stays true to its classic roots, as well as yet is fresh as well as current, such as this one above.

I am torn between the super-cool spaces I see in our magazine — with the vintage postmodern furniture as well as ’70s combination — as well as my wish to have spaces that are calm, smooth as well as serene, with hits of colour like the pillows on the sofa shown above.

There’s nothing serene about an eye-popping mix of unforeseen elements, is there?

I believe these spaces hit a excellent note since they are dramatic, have traditional elements, however they’ve brought in bits of stylish furniture, like the raw wood bench/coffee table as well as this wonderful metal etagere (above). essentially all neutrals, these spaces glow with different tones as well as shades as well as are anything however bland. shows that with great deals of texture, excellent shapes as well as fascinating pieces, neutrals can be exciting.

Love the natural oak doors as well as striped rug in the study. Has me dreaming about some updates to my house. I’m almost prepared to share some snaps of spaces in progress.

P.S. speaking of progress, I’m off to see the development of the next Showhouse we are building for the Princess Margaret hospital Foundation. It’s in Oakville, Ontario, as well as it’s so amazing it keeps me up at night. stay tuned for details!
